Looking for a “Buddy”?

June 4, 2014

buddy4Meet Buddy! Buddy came to us from Miami, which has a breed ban.  A rescue group there fell in love with him and pulled him from Miami-Dade Animal Services, then asked if we would take him in.  We had a foster who was available and a good fit, so we took him.

Buddy3The foster has a couple of young kids (preschool age) and he is wonderful with them!  He’s charming and friendly with all people and loves to hang out with his humans.  He’s very affectionate and full of personality.  He’s also very well behaved at home and fully house-trained and crate-trained.  He is really good looking and gets lots of attention and loves it — he’s a confident, outgoing dog who enjoys meeting new people.

Buddy hasn’t gotten enough exposure because he is reactive on leash around other dogs, so he (like a number of other dogs) doesn’t do well at adoption events.  We have worked with him a lot at our training classes on this.  He barks when he first sees other dogs, but we practice side-by-side walks and he settles down quickly.  He doesn’t have another dog in his foster home, but the foster’s parents live next door and he hangs out with their dog through the fence and is fine.  We think he could live with another dog (ideally an easy going female) if the adopter is willing to work on slow introductions.

Buddy1He’s about 2 years old and weighs about 60 lbs. He’s neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all shots and on heartworm and flea preventative.
