Apple-bacon treats
Bacon is right up there at the top of Mia’s “favorite foods” list, so whip up a batch of these tasty tidbits and keep them in the fridge or freezer for whenever you need a special treat.
Ingredients:
- 3 c whole wheat flour
- 1 egg
- ½ c milk
- ½ c applesauce
- ½ c bacon bits (or 6-8 slices of crumbled bacon)
- ¼ c vegetable oil (or bacon grease)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
- Combine egg, milk, applesauce, oil, and bacon; mix well.
- Mix in flour until thoroughly incorporated.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until about ¼” to ½” thick.
- Cut into small pieces, or use small cookie cutters to make shapes.
- Bake for 25 minutes, or until browned and hard.
Note: Although every dog within sniffing distance of your house will want to eat these right away, give them out sparingly, as they are very rich and you don’t want to cause intestinal issues. (That’s no fun for anyone.)
