StubbyDog’s Rescue Dog of the Week is sponsored by Zobo Pet Products, who will be giving away a free collar for every dog adopted through this program.

Lacy is a 10-month-old and 59-lb. pit bull. Her former owner divorced and was unable to take Lacy with her to the only place she had to go to. Unfortunately, without her owner, Lacy was left in an abusive situation, where the only attention she received was when she was hit and kicked, which happened frequently. As a result, Lacy lived in a constant state of fear of the people that should have been protecting her.

Thankfully, her former owner reached out to ICARE Dog Rescue in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, who immediately sent out a plea for foster family to come forward so that Lacy could be removed from her abusive environment. On Labor Day weekend, ICARE recovered Lacy from the abusive home and placed her with a qualified foster family. Her foster family quickly won her over the day she arrived, by giving her boiled chicken breast pieces and talking softly to her. She was afraid of her foster Papa, but warmed up to him after an hour of him patiently letting her decide when it was ok to make eye contact with her and pet her.

Today, Lacy is getting the chance she didn’t have before to be a puppy growing up in a loving and supportive environment. Lacy’s foster family has two dogs, three cats and former foster dogs that visit. She is amazingly dog and cat friendly! Her foster siblings are teaching her how dogs play together and she’s catching on quickly. She’s potty pad trained and is starting to understand that she can go outside for potty also.

There are many things that we take for granted as being part of every dog’s life, but Lacy didn’t seem to have experience with, such as grass, sprinklers, a doggie pool, hard bones to chew, baskets of doggie toys, and lots and lots of hugs and kisses. Lacy is a gentle snuggle bug! One of the most notable steps that Lacy has made in two weeks is that when she gets startled, she trots to her foster parents instead of running to hide under the table. Lacy has learned that a family is supposed to protect her and tell her the world is going to be ok, because they are all together and together they can conquer anything!

Lacy is available through ICARE Dog Rescue located in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. You can also see them on Facebook.
