StubbyDog’s Rescue Dog of the Week is sponsored by Zobo Pet Products, who will be giving away a free collar for every dog adopted through this program.

Manny is a 2-3-year-old pit mix. He’s had some rough patches in his life but he has fought past adversity and is ready for his forever home. Ideally, Manny should be the only dog in a home but he could probably also live with a smaller, submissive female. A meet and greet would surely be necessary. He is currently in Demascus, PA at True Companion Dog Training but will return to Jersey next month. He has been at TCDT since January and is very well trained. He is a great listener, has put on loads of weight and his personality really shines through now! Manny needs an experienced dog owner who will demand respect and then, praise and give affection. Although Manny is very affectionate, he will try to test his boundaries and see how much he can get away with. He needs a firm handler to say no, sometimes! He’s a handsome, loving, mellow guy who loves long walks and to play but also just kind of lay around. Please spread the word about Manny!!!

Manny is available for adoption through the Liberty Humane Society. You can check them out on the web, or on Facebook. He has a public album Facebook page here. People are welcome to contact me directly, Ines Lopes at Thanks again!!!!!

“Manny needs an experienced dog owner who will demand respect…” This, along with the description of his need for a “submissive” housemate, is kind of disturbing to read. I would have hoped that a humane society would employ more knowledgeable staff who don’t subscribe to such harmful, outdated dominance theory or use such inaccurate language.
Manny is a beautiful boy, and I hope he finds a happy home.

@Fre8876 I am a volunteer with the shelter and Manny has been my project dog for almost a year. I wrote the write up for him. I understand your concerns. Manny came from a very difficult situation with other dogs.  Once Manny is adopted, he will need continued obedience training to keep his skills sharp! Manny has lived in the shelter for awhile and may need some time acclimating into a home environment. I hope you understand.
