StubbyDog’s Rescue Dog of the Week is sponsored by Zobo Pet Products, who will be giving away a free collar for every dog adopted through this program.

“Hi! My name is Conan and I am a sweet gent! I make friends quickly with new people, even the most unusual of strangers, and love to be petted and massaged. I like playing with people and simply love toys! I am a little uncomfortable with some handling like on my paws and muzzle. I will readily share my resources with people. Because of my sensitivity to certain handling, I’d rather be in a home with older children. I am indifferent to the approach of visitors but if they’re friends of yours, they’re friends of mine! I’m an older gent, so while I’m interested in meeting other dogs, I was not very playful when I was evaluated with another dog. I was more interested in just making acquaintances. I don’t know any basic commands but I’m eager to learn…for a taste of my favorite treats! I feel pretty anxious and distracted in the topsy-turvy life at the shelter….if you can rescue me from here, please come by to visit or call the shelter for more information.”

Here’s what Liberty Humane writes about Conan:
Conan “The Barkbarian” is a 9-10 year old, neutered male, pit bull mix. He is a stunning older pit mix who has been at the shelter since September. Conan was found wandering the streets one day. He entered the facility neutered, and we all thought someone would come looking for him. However, no one showed up and he has been with us ever since.

Conan is a sweet, old, gentle soul with a heart of gold. He has quickly become a favorite among staff and volunteers despite his tendency for ummm…. “accidents”. He just has such a soft temperament. He’s good with most dogs but Conan really relishes human contact and attention. He also seems cat friendly. No handling or food guarding issues.

His hips have a low range of motion so he does have some trouble with stairs (mostly going up). Our vet, after a physical examination concluded that while Conan’s range of motion is limited, he’s not in any pain. Conan is incontinent though. Because of this he has been adopted & returned. He has also been returned from several foster homes pretty much immediately. We’re now starting to worry that we won’t be able to find a home willing to take on a project like Conan and we don’t want him to continue to wallow away in a cage all day. With all the products out there these days for senior canines- from doggie diapers, to medication and supplements to help with incontinence- there are options. The option Conan really needs though is a special someone who is willing to take on an equally special canine like himself.

Conan is available for adoption through Liberty Humane Society, which is located in Jersey City, New Jersey. You can check them out on Facebook.

I walk Conan when I go to the shelter and I can’t even begin to tell you how unbelievably sweet and loving he is. He is really stressed in the shelter and would thrive in a home environment. Please adopt this loving guy…he has so much love to give!

I went by a few weeks ago to drop off some supplies and I met him when a volunteer was walking him. Broke my heart that he wanted to go with me, I already have a dog and really can’t take another one right now, if I could I would definitely take this handsome boy home. I fell in love with him that day and I’m sure anyone who can give him a home will love him FOREVER. He is the MOST SWEET AND LOVING dog you’ll ever meet or even better, have as a companion. Please adopt him.
