Meet Bill!

Bill is a wonderful, social pit bull type dog that was pulled from NYC’s Animal Care and Control after the staff realized he needed emergency care. Animal Haven immediately fell in love with his photo. The shelter arranged for him to be rushed to the emergency vet because he appeared to have infections in his feet that created edema and lots of pain for the pup. After specialists looked him over, it was noted that the infection moved all the way to his heart. Eventually, the vets couldn’t save a toe because the infection went all the way down to the bone! Bill needed lots of special meds, care and isolation because he was so vulnerable. Luckily, Bill-the- trooper survived treatment and is now in a loving foster home with a great foster sister, Lucy.

Here is what his foster dad, Josh has to say:

Pittie Bill is just a big ole mush. The only thing he wants in life is to sit with his human (or on them!) and have his ears scratched or his belly rubbed. He’s friendly with other dogs, but isn’t too fond of a lot of energy – he starts to bark, but never becomes aggressive. He’s more like a referee in a sports game than anything else: he likes to break up the commotion, rather than be a part of it. He’s already housebroken and crate trained, and walks very well on his leash. He’s almost always right by my side, and if he isn’t, he always comes back when I tell him. His favorite treat is creamy peanut butter inside of a Kong toy. He doesn’t mind being dressed up: he went as a Pit BullFrog for Halloween, and regularly wears his coat on chilly days! And I was very surprised by his calm demeanor during bath time! When all is said and done, he’s just a great dog who only wants a human to call his own.

Bill is available for adoption in NYC at Animal Haven . You can also follow Josh and Bill’s adventures in their blog.
