Capturing the Moment

November 10, 2011

By Laura Petrolino, StubbyDog VP of Operations

I woke up this morning with a feeling of dread. … Why you may ask? Today is the day that our judge’s panel must choose four “Judge’s Pick” winners from the calendar contest entries! Oh the agony! So many simply amazing pit bull superheroes and being forced to only pick four.

So wish us luck today as we sort through all the great superheroes and try to narrow it down. If only there were more months in the year.

On another very exciting note, we’ve been working the last few days with StubbyDog friend, photo contributor and all around superwomen, Melody McFarland of Melody Pet Photography, to put together some StubbyDog Christmas cards. To be honest, these cards are so adorable that they might almost be illegal! So stay tuned for the unveiling. (Photo by Melody McFarland)

Melody is one of the many absolutely amazing photographers that generously donate their work to help us add powerful visual images to the stories on our site. An important part of changing the negative public perception of pit bulls is replacing the harsh visual images that many have when they hear the name pit bull. You know the one I’m referring to because it pops up all too often if you do a general search for “pit bulls” online – growling and/or fighting dogs, disgustingly abused dogs, heavy chain collars and other similar visuals that only further ingrain a negative perception of pit bulls.

These photographers help us replace those images with ones more fitting for the loving companions that we all know well. These beautiful photos also help make our stories that much more powerful.

There are many photographers that have donated their work, but an especially huge thanks to a few whom we count on the most to deliver exceptional, emotionally powerful images day after day, story after story. Make sure to check them out!

@woofslc Thank you Melissa! In my mind the photos are in many ways more important than the stories themselves. Being able to replace those negative images in people’s minds is extremely powerful! We feel very lucky to have you as a part of our team 🙂
