I am Now Part of a Family
July 25, 2011
Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…
Did you know that there are tiny rooms that MOVE! They look like a regular rooms, except that the doors open and close like magic and then the ENTIRE ROOM STARTS TO MOVE! I had to ride one to get to my new home, which is in something called an “apartment building.”
Anyway, I get to ride this room every day to go on walks! It was terrifying at first. No one at the shelter ever said that I would have a room that moves up and down but now that I have one I’m thinking that all the best homes have one. Why wouldn’t they? It’s like a giant toy!
I can barely remember my first day with my new family. After Lily Matt and Marnie took me in the room that moves they unlocked a door and inside it was my new home.
The first thing I did was curl up on a bed that was right in the middle of the living room floor. Lily and Matt started to laugh and I thought I did something wrong so I jumped up but Marnie said that was my bed and I was being a good boy. I could nap in that bed all day long. It’s like sleeping in a warm hug.
Matt and Lily were laughing because I have more than one bed! I thought maybe those beds were for other dogs, or maybe for Matt and Lily, but no, I have a soft place to lie down in the living room and Marnie’s bedroom and – get this – I am allowed to sleep on Matt or Lily’s bed if I want.
I also have my very own set of bowls to eat and drink out of and Marnie set up my very own place in the kitchen where I can eat “without being disturbed.” When I lived in the place I remember that food was scarce and that there weren’t any soft places to lie down. Now I have food – good food – every day and I have Matt, Lily, and Marnie who wake up every morning and tell me I am a good boy.
I am now part of a family. I don’t know what that means, except that my head is always patted and my belly is always full and I don’t worry as much as I used to.
Being part of a family is pretty much the best thing ever!
