Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…

I really don’t remember much after I left The Place. I remember I was hungry, and it was cold. Where I ended up was kinda like it, except that my brothers and sisters and my mom were gone. The people kept me outside on a chain. It was cold. And lonely. Sometimes they would come out to visit.

But sometimes they’d forget.

The chain finally broke. I could go wherever I wanted.

I just wanted to go away.

I went away until there was something, something that smelled like food, except that I couldn’t get to it. It was tall and round and smooth and I put my feet up on the sides and tried to jump up but instead I knocked it over and it made a loud sound and I ran around the corner because I didn’t want anyone to yell at me for making a mess.

But no one yelled.

I crept back to discover there was a woman there. She was holding out what smelled like food. I didn’t know who she was, but I was so cold and so hungry and she had nice eyes and kept telling me that it was okay.

I took the food from her as carefully as I could. I was so hungry. She told me I was a good boy. I wagged my tail and she smiled at me.

She brought me to this place called The Shelter.

She cried when she left, but she said that they would take care of me.

She said my name was Stubby.
