A Special Boi

Unlike most of the stories I hear about how someone became a “pit bull person,” mine starts out just a little bit differently. After having my first pit bull shot by a disgruntled neighbor back in January of 2007, I just couldn’t bear the thought of replacing her.

Hi, Jack!

While I was pregnant, Jack used to lay his head on my lap and watch my belly. He was protective from the start! When our kids were first born, they were extremely tiny little babes, so mostly we kept the dogs in separate rooms.

Mama Daisy

Our pit bull’s name is Daisy, and when my daughter was pregnant, she always had to be right next to her and cuddled. After the baby was born, Daisy always has to lay next to her and will bring toys to her and even cleans her face and hands.

Anytime our grandson comes, the dogs become glued to him. They play and play, and then they all pass out together. I like to say they are guarding him, which is probably the truth.

A Baby’s Best Friend

We adopted our pit mix, Lizzie, in August 2010, about two months before I found out I was pregnant. At first I was a little nervous having a dog with an unknown background around my newborn, but that quickly faded.

Ben and Bane

Ben and Bane became best friends quickly. They play their own version of tag, where Bane runs about the room squeaking his toy and then waits while Ben crawls after him. Then when Ben’s about to get him, Bane darts around him (or jumps over him), and on and on they play.
