My pup Bodie was picked up on the street by animal services in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. He was about 3 months old, had recently had his ears cropped and still had stitches and a plastic cone on his head when he was found.

Macy the Lonely Pit Bull

My wife, Robyn, found Macy on Petfinder.com. She had been dumped outside a shelter near Trenton, N.J., in very bad shape. She had scars on her face and legs, and weighed only 30 pounds (she is now healthy at 65 pounds). Her body was infested with just about every possible internal parasite, and parts of her ears were missing – they had either been cut or chewed off.

All it takes is an open mind and some education about pit bulls. They are wonderful, loving, family dogs that are loyal and gentle. My husband and I have six rescued dogs – three are pits.

One of these foster parents brought him to our home for a visit. He was a little over a year old at the time, and all I knew about him was that he was a surrender, along with some of his brothers and sisters.
