Battersea’s Oldest Dog Travels 270 Miles to New Home

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s oldest dog Blackie has found his new retirement home in Durham, 270 miles away from the charity’s London center. Aged 19 in dog years and 133 in human terms, golden oldie Blackie is the oldest dog ever to arrive at Battersea, and is among a growing number of golden oldies arriving at the charity.

Walter the Elderbull

I thought it would be a good idea to get Walter certified as a therapy dog through Therapy Dogs International for two reasons: 1) He thrives on attention, so I knew it would be good for him to be in situations where he would get just that; 2) Probably most important, I feel that Walter can be an ambassador for his breed and, in the long run, help save lives.

Bailey’s Way

We have had Bailey since she was 10 weeks old. She has seen a lot of life in these last 11+ years. She has seen rescue dogs come and go. She has helped me school many, many rescue dogs by showing them what good canine citizens act like. In fact, she is just as responsible for the many adoptions as we are!
