National Pit Bull Awareness Day

Calling All Pit Bull Lovers!

October 22, 2011, is National Pit Bull Awareness Day – the perfect opportunity to make a difference for pit bulls. We are asking all pit bull lovers to take the StubbyDog National Pit Bull Awareness Day two-part challenge:

1. Plan Your Day
First, we challenge you to get out and volunteer on National Pit Bull Awareness Day.
You can:

• Volunteer with a local rescue group that is already planning an event on this day, such as an adoption event or information booth, or help your local group plan something. To find pit bull rescues in your area, click here.

• Or, participate in a pit bull parade, hike or other gathering organized by a local pit bull group.

• If you’d like to learn how to make a press release for your National Pit Bull Awareness Day event, here’s a sample.

• For handouts, educational materials and more information about pit bulls, visit our resource page.

• You can also list your event or check for other events in your area on the National Pit Bull Awareness Day website (which is not associated with StubbyDog).

2. Contact the Media
Once you know what you’ll be doing on National Pit Bull Awareness Day, we challenge you to contact your local media, including local TV stations, radio stations, newspapers and magazines.

• First, tell the media about the local event you’ll be participating in. Give them a press release or flyer if you have one (see sample press release above).

• Then, give them the StubbyDog National Pit Bull Awareness Day press release too. You can download it by clicking here. This is an important step because StubbyDog can be a source of accurate information for reporters, and we can help connect them with local stories.

• Make sure to read our tips for talking to the media, as we want to make sure to help change public perceptions about pit bulls.

• Lastly, report back to us. Tell us how your event went and if you were able to get the media to cover your event or report a positive pit bull story!

If we all work together, we can make National Pit Bull Awareness Day a day when all Americans hear positive stories about what great companions pit bull type dogs can be!
