Pitty Love Rescue / Rochester, New York

Mission statement: Pitty Love Rescue, Inc. (PLR) is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)(3) pit bull specific rescue group located in Rochester, NY. PLR serves the Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse areas. The organization is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible placement of abandoned, abused, and neglected pit bull type dogs. Through education, awareness, and a strong community presence, PLR saves dogs and continually works to dispel myths and open minds.

About the organization: PLR was unofficially started in 2006 by one person with a vision for pit bull type dogs in Rochester, NY. The president and founder of PLR, Jennifer Fedele, simply saw a problem and wanted to fix it. Independently she took one to two urgent dogs at a time into her home and found them responsible, loving homes. Connecting with fellow animal advocate and rescuer Lindsay Bachl in 2009, the two women began building on their combined vision and PLR was officially born. Today, the PLR network spans 40+ foster homes and has taken in over 350 dogs to find them loving and responsible homes. The organization boasts a hardy volunteer base chock-full of dedicated, committed, passionate, and knowledgeable people.

The volunteers in PLR advocate passionately for the ones that have been forgotten, abandoned, discarded, and abused. A big part of the PLR mission is to spread awareness through education because with knowledge comes power and power can/will effect change. PLR continues to advocate for these dogs through perseverance, education, and tireless dedication.

All dogs adopted from PLR come spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), dewormed, socialized, have a solid foundation in force free obedience, and a lifetime of support.

Admission policy: PLR works locally to tackle the overpopulation of pit bull type dogs. Dogs eligible for the PLR program include dogs from local shelters, abandoned dogs, and dogs found as strays. PLR takes in owner surrenders on a limited basis because our ultimate goal is to keep families and their dogs together. PLR operates on a foster home network.

In addition, the organization is partnered with a local force free training company (Tails of Success) and offers free training classes and puppy socials for fosters and when possible, shelter dogs in need. PLR also hosts seminars, educational documentaries, outreach events, and group walks (in the warmer months) for continuous socialization/education/support for both dogs and humans.
