Rescue Dog of the Week

Rex is a 2 year old pit bull terrier mix who has been with Eleventh Hour Rescue since the spring of 2012. There is a small group of volunteers at our rescue that works with him. The more we got to know Rex, the more we fell in love with his happy, playful, fun and energetic personality. Once he got to know us he would start to do a loud cry, almost as if he was saying “You are back! Let’s play!”

The longer he was there the more confused we became as to why no one would adopt him. We moved him to the first run so that when people would pull up they would see him and hopefully someone would fall in love as we did. People came and went and no one showed interest in him. That is when we realized that Rex was becoming depressed. The playful, happy dog that we had grown to love was now lying down and wouldn’t bother to get up when someone pulled up. It broke our hearts to see that once playful dog become broken. Suddenly, we got a call that someone was interested in fostering him.

Rex is currently being fostered in Morris Plains, New Jersey and seems to be doing very well in a home environment. His amazing personality has returned! His foster family says that he is extremely playful and loves to do long walks and hikes. He walks wonderfully on an EZ Walk harness. Rex is a very energetic, puppy-like, fun dog who has an amazing smile. His energy level is extremely high and he cannot contain his happiness with any toys you give him. He loves to cuddle and is crate trained and house trained. Rex loves people and other dogs (preferably his size because of how playful he is). Rex is going to need an energetic active family with older children who can keep up with his energy and with his strength. He is a very strong dog with an incredibly happy personality. Currently his foster family is working on some training with him. He knows how to “Sit” and “Stay.” He is learning to “Drop it!” and some additional manners. Rex is a fast learner and before we know it, he will be the perfect dog!

Rex is about two years old and is around 60lbs. He is neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. He is available for adoption through Eleventh Hour Rescue in Randolph, New Jersey. For more information on Rex please visit his website or Facebook profile.
