Rescue Spotlight – Bella’s Bully Buddies

Bella’s Bully Buddies, Inc. – White Marsh, Maryland

Mission statement: Bella’s Bully Buddies is an all volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to rescue pit bull dogs from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. While the dogs are being lovingly cared for in our network of 40 foster homes, we provide excellent nutrition, training and enrichment, and veterinary care. Our goal is to find each and every one of them a forever home where they will be loved as a part of the family for the rest of their lives. Through everyday interactions and community events we work to educate the public about the loyal, intelligent and loving nature that make pit bull dogs wonderful companions and family members.

About the organization: Melissa Trotman-Pfeifer, John Pfeifer IV, and Anita Struzinski wanted to take their love for their own pit bull dogs to the next level when they got involved with volunteering at the local animal shelter in Baltimore, Maryland. The more they got involved with the shelter, the stronger their desire became to make the biggest impact that they possibly could on the homeless dog population they loved so much. In May of 2012, they created Bella’s Bully Buddies, and in the first year the all-volunteer organization saved 197 pit bull dogs from local shelters where they would have been euthanized.

Each of our lives changed the day we brought a pit bull into our lives. We immediately learned that being the guardian of a pit bull means that you will educate people every day, work to correct the misconceptions, and change opinions about what these dogs are really like. What we each receive in return is unconditional love from the most loyal, resilient, loving creatures – we get back so much more than we give. We are so proud to be their advocates and we would like more people from our community to know this feeling by joining us as volunteers, foster providers and guardians of these wonderful dogs.

Admission policy: We take dogs from overcrowded local shelters and shelters who do not adopt out pit bull dogs. We take dogs who are considered pit bulls or pit mixes and have occasionally taken other types of mixed breed dogs who were in need of medical care and a second chance.
