Surprise Cubes

As the weather gets warmer, you can make these frozen broth cubes and toss them to your pup as a reward and to help him cool down. Or she can just chase them across the deck until they melt and reveal the surprise tidbit.

  • Low- or no-sodium (preferably homemade) chicken, beef, or vegetable broth
  • Variety of small treats – kibble, small pieces of chicken, blueberries, etc. – use your dog’s favorites

  • Put one treat into each individual ice cube mold.
  • Pour cooled broth into the molds, about ¾ full.
  • Place in freezer, leave until frozen solid.
  • Use as needed.

Note: These work even better if you use ice cube trays with very small molds – more treats for your dog, but with less mouthing and slobbering of giant ice cubes.

The use of any recipe is at your own discretion. Check with a veterinarian prior to feeding homemade food or treats if you are unsure about any recipe or if your dog has any medical conditions, special nutritional needs, or ingredient sensitivities.
