Rescue Dog of the Week

Please meet Finnick, one of the sweetest dogs ever – he truly loves everyone! He calmly greets strangers at the front door or on the street, and will cry for a moment when they leave. He adores children, and loves to sit on laps. Finnick gets along well with other dogs, and lived with a dominant small breed dog in his last home. He walks nicely on a leash, is housebroken and crate trained, and has excellent manners. This calm, handsome AmStaff really is the ideal family dog. Sadly, his last family did not take very good care of him. His ears were terribly infected when he was rescued, he was 15 pounds over weight, and he was spending 14 hours a day in a crate. Additionally, his ACLs were both torn years ago and never treated. As a result of this neglect, he has developed arthritis and muscle atrophy throughout his body. In less than two weeks in a loving foster home he began to lose weight and make great progress towards healing. He is getting around much better, and thriving with pain management. As he continues to lose weight and build muscle, he will feel even better. We are unsure of his age, but estimate that he is 6 to 8 years old.

We desperately want to find Finnick a family to spend the rest of his years with. He doesn’t need much ongoing care, just exercise, a glucosamine supplement, and his pain medication as needed. (A & S Rescue is willing to commit to paying for his medication for the rest of his life.) Finnick will do well as a companion for a single person, or he would love to live in a home with kids.

Please note that Finnick will only be placed into a forever home that is located within 1.5 hours of Lake & McHenry Counties in Illinois.

If you would like to meet Finnick, or are interested in adopting him, please contact A & S Rescue or fill out an adoption application here.
