Liver Treats

These treats are quite rich, so cut them into small pieces and use them for training rewards. (Mia would like to say that offering them as rewards for being adorable is not only acceptable, but strongly encouraged.)

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¼ lbs chicken liver
  • 2 c oatmeal (regular or quick-cook)
  • 1 c wheat germ
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic (optional)

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Liquefy liver and garlic in food processor or blender.
  • Add peanut butter, eggs, and olive oil; blend until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients.
  • Add liver mixture to dry ingredients; mix well.
  • Spread evenly in a lightly greased 9×9 baking dish.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, until firm.
  • Let cool and cut into small pieces; store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Note: To get the liver and garlic smell out of your blender or processor, rinse the residue out, then put coffee grounds and a dab of dishwashing liquid into the container and give it a few whirs. Let the coffee-soap mixture sit for a while, then wash normally.
