Treat ‘Em Right Rescue / Houston, Texas

Mission statement: Treat ‘Em Right Rescue (TERR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of the American Pit Bull Terrier and other “bully” breeds. All dogs come to TERR from high-kill shelters, police raids, or confiscations resulting from animal cruelty cases. TERR often takes in dogs that have been the victims of indescribable abuse and neglect, and provide them with the medical attention they need to heal physically, and the love and attention they need to heal emotionally. The mission of Treat ‘Em Right Rescue is to find each dog a loving home, promote responsible ownership, and educate the public about the gentle, affectionate, and loyal nature of the American Pit Bull Terrier. Through these education and advocacy initiatives, TERR aims to restore the reputation of a breed that was once America’s favorite dog.

About the organization: Treat ‘Em Right Rescue has been rescuing bully breeds since 2008. TERR is one of the few bully rescues in the greater Houston area that has an actual sheltering facility, as well as a network of foster families. TERR also works diligently at reframing the image of the bully breeds in the public eye. TERR hosts low cost vaccination and microchipping clinics, obedience training classes, and many other fundraisers that not only help inform the public but assist in raising funds for the rescue. In 2011 TERR showcased “Beyond the Myth” both as a way to educate and as a fund raiser. In 2012 Treat ‘Em Right Rescue hosted Houston’s first annual “National Pit Bull Awareness Day” event, and is in the planning stages for Houston’s second annual “National Pit Bull Awareness Day” in 2013.

Admission policy: All dogs come to TERR from high-kill shelters, police raids, or confiscations resulting from animal cruelty cases.
