Tasty Beef Twists
The beauty of these (and all homemade) treats is that you have much greater control over the quality of ingredients that go into them.
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ c all-purpose flour
- 1 c cornmeal
- ¾ c beef stock (if you don’t have beef stock, use a beef bouillon cube)
- ¼ c milk
- ¼ c vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1 jar beef baby food, strained
- 1 packet unflavored gelatin
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400 F.
- Bring beef stock (or water with dissolved bouillon cube) to a boil; add gelatin.
- Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl.
- Add milk, oil, egg, baby food, and stock/bouillon to dry ingredients.
- Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- On a floured surface, roll dough out to ¼ inch thickness.
- Cut dough into ½ x 6 inch strips.
- Twist each strip 3 times before placing on lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Bake 35-40 minutes, until the sticks are very firm to the touch.
- Let cool completely on a rack before storing in the refrigerator or freezer.
Note: Make sure that you follow the instructions on the gelatin package, and stir until the crystals are completely dissolved. If you are using a bouillon cube or store-bought beef stock, try to get low-sodium if possible.
