StubbyDog at the Pet Parade

StubbyDog’s volunteer editor takes the show on the road with a presence at the Laguna Beach Pet Parade and Chili Cook-off

By Micaela Myers

As the editor of Laguna Beach Magazine, for the past two years I’ve been invited to judge the annual Pet Parade and Chili Cook-off, put on by the local board of realtors as a fundraiser for several local animal charities. This year it took place Sept. 30.

My husband wore his StubbyDog hat, and I wore my StubbyDog “My pit bull is turning stereotypes upside down” tank top, of course.

Laguna Beach is a very dog friendly town. Many shops put out water bowls for dogs, lots of restaurants have dog-friendly patios, there’s a dog park, dogs are welcome on beaches (with certain rules), and dogs are even invited to join their owners during the First Thursday Art Walk each month. There are many pit bulls in Laguna – all who appear to be well loved and well cared for, and just as welcome around town as any other furry four-legged friend.

At the pet parade there were several happy pit bulls socializing with dogs of all sizes. One dressed up like a devil for the costume contest, but we know that’s just because playing dress-up is a time to be something you’re not (he’s really an angel, no doubt!).

It’s great seeing pit bulls being treated as exactly what they are: just dogs (special, cuddly clown dogs, I might add). It’s also great that StubbyDog will be out in the community more than ever now that the Superhero Squad has arrived! Up, up and away!
