The author makes room in her pack for a foster dog from Puerto Rico
By Melanie Bratsenis
I have four rescues that I adopted. I recently took on my first foster dog. Her name is Ruby, and she is sweet and energetic.
I received a call from my friend, Chrissy, who runs The Dead Dog Beach PR Project, a wonderful organization doing great things for the abandoned and abused dogs of Puerto Rico. She asked if I could foster a dog whose adoption had fallen through. I am a big supporter of hers and one of my “pack members,” Coqui, was adopted through her.
It’s been just a few weeks since I started fostering Ruby, and we are enjoying teaching and learning from our new foster dog. I’ve had only good experiences with all my dogs, but there is definitely an adjustment period with any new dog, and I think people should be aware and prepared for that. I think fostering is a wonderful life-saving thing, and I will definitely foster again in the future. I try and talk everyone I know into considering fostering.
