Huey

March 22, 2012

StubbyDog’s Rescue Dog of the Week is sponsored by Zobo Pet Products, who will be giving away a free collar for every dog adopted through this program.

Sweet and gentle Huey is an amazing dog! He enjoys the company of other dogs, and kids (even toddlers!) He is house broken and knows basic commands.

Huey was once in a home where someone loved him, but then his person went into rehab so she asked someone she knew to watch him while she was away. Sadly, they just put Huey in their backyard and didn’t even feed him. He became emaciated, lonely and scared. Then one day the dog that got to live inside that house got out and attacked him and tore his poor ear.

His owner went to the house and found him in bad shape and although she loved her dog she knew she had to get better herself before she could take care of him so she surrendered him to the RISPCA, hoping for a better life for Huey.

At the shelter Huey was getting food on a regular basis, and vet care for his ear. The vet tried to save the ear, but in the end, it had to be amputated. But that’s OK, we think it makes him look unique. The shelter was a little better because Huey met his friend Laurelin who works there. She took him on outings and let him spend time in her office. Huey loved her, but it was not a real home. And Laurelin loved Huey so much that she reached out to us at Handsome Dan’s Rescue and told us about how special Huey is and how much he wants a deserves a loving home.

We met Huey at the RISPCA, with our toddler, and you know what? Laurelin was right. Huey is one special dog! He is soulful, gentle and oh so loving. He passed our behavior evaluation with flying colors so next we set up a meet-and-greet with his potential foster family and their dog Cody. The boys were fast friends so it was decided that Huey would leave the shelter for foster care with Cody and his people.

We think Huey would do well in just about any family. He does not care if it’s a big family with lots of kids, or just a single person, or even if they have another dog or two. He just wants a person or people to love, and who will love him back. Could you be that person?

If you are interested in adopting Huey, please fill out an adoption application here. Please specify that you are applying for “HUEY AT HANDSOME DAN’S RESCUE” to ensure that your application gets to the correct person. Once received, your application will be emailed to the foster family who will contact you. Huey’s adoption donation is $200. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines.

You can check Handsome Dan’s Rescue out on Facebook. Handsome Dan’s Rescue is located in Providence, Rhode Island. Thank you for choosing rescue! Huey’s foster mom is Stephanie and can be reached at [email protected].
