StubbyDog Shelter Essay Contest – Winners Announced!

February 1, 2012

Our animal shelters are under tremendous strain, with far too many homeless and abandoned animals and not enough adopters or funding. While some fail under this pressure, others rise up through the help of staff and volunteers that go the extra mile. Throughout the month of February, StubbyDog will be celebrating such shelters as well as looking at how other shelters can improve. To kick things off, we held an essay contest, where we asked you to share what your local shelter means to you. We received many fabulous entries but had to narrow it down to one winner and three runners up. However, additional essays, also worthy of publication, will appear on throughout the month of February, so stay tuned and check back daily! In the meantime, a big congratulations to our winners:

First Place: Maryellen Liddy, Jersey Animal Coalition

Runners up:
Amy Amann, Lakeland Animal Shelter
Allison Gregson, Upper Credit Humane Society
Lisa Vinney/Chad Millar, Dane County Humane Society

Prizes and sponsors:
The first place winner’s shelter will receive a $50 gift card to In addition, all four of the winning will receive a StubbyDog calendar, a StubbyDog charm from Sunz Jewelz, have their essay and shelter featured on the StubbyDog website, and have a rescue dog of the week spotlighted.
