StubbyDog’s Rescue Dog of the Week is sponsored by Zobo Pet Products, who will be giving away a free collar for every dog adopted through this program.

Hi! My name is Dominic. I’m a smart, loyal, lovable pit bull mix. I’m also incredibly cute. Seriously! Look at my pictures, and you’ll see I’m just about the most handsome brindle bully around. I don’t remember much of my life before I was brought in as a stray to the Jersey Animal Coalition (JAC) in South Orange, NJ during the summer of 2011. From the day I walked through the shelter doors, I’ve been the same friendly, loving guy I am today. I guess my old owner didn’t realize what a gem I am, but that’s okay … my new friends at the JAC shelter do! They all say really nice things about me now. One JAC volunteer described me as “the coolest dog at the JAC.” It’s true, I am pretty spectacular! Another JAC volunteer said I’m “very sweet and affectionate and just want to sit as close as possible.” I do like to snuggle up to people! That’s good, right? One of my friends has even called me her “heart,” which I guess means she adores me just for being the face-licking goofball that I am.

I’m so lucky to be in a safe place and have so many wonderful people pet me, walk me, hug me, and kiss me. The JAC shelter takes very good care of me. I’m so grateful for them! But you know what I really dream about? Getting a home of my very own so I don’t have to sit in a cage all day anymore. I get lonely by myself. I know I’d be so much happier if I got to share all the love and joy inside of me with a family of my own. That would be the best!

I hear often that I’m a “good boy.” I am! The vet thinks I’m about 3 years old, which is a great age. I am energetic and playful – you should see me run around the soccer field doing zoomies! – but I also love to relax, like when I’m in my “upside down dog” pose. I’m told I look really cute when I do it. Maybe you’d like to see that for yourself? I walk very nicely on the leash, barely pulling at all. I also learned a neat trick … when my walker says something about “sitting,” I just plop my butt down and receive a treat. People are so funny! One of my walkers tells me I’m “smart and gorgeous” when I do that trick. I won’t argue with that!

What else do you need to know about me? I share my toys and food really well. A JAC volunteer once had to reach in my throat and grab a chicken bone during a walk. I let her help me and gladly gave the bone up, even though it tasted really good. I guess I’m not supposed to eat food like that off the ground? I’m learning new things all the time! I love to curl up on a soft sheet in my cage and play with my Kong or my chewy bone. I heard that when I get a home, I might even get to sleep on a big, comfy dog bed. That would be perfect! I don’t seem to mind cats, and I get along pretty well with other dogs, especially female dogs who like to play with me.

Thanks for reading all about me and checking out my pictures. Maybe you’ll come by and meet me at the JAC. I love making new friends! Who knows, maybe I’ll turn out to be the perfect dog for you, and we can both live happily ever after.
