CKGC (Canine Kinda-Good Citizen)

January 23, 2012

Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…

One my resolutions this year is to pass my Canine Good Citizen test. Remember Mr. Skinner? He’s not a fan of having pit bulls in the building, and went to the landlord to try to make my family give me away. Thankfully, the landlord wasn’t falling for it. But he did tell Marnie that if I passed my CGC, it would go a long way in showing people like Mr. Skinner that I was a good dog.

I have to confess, I don’t like tests. Unless it’s a test of how much I can eat. But no one’s giving me that test. (If you know of someone, hook a dog up!) Marnie has signed me up for classes and she and Matt and acting as my dog “handlers.” (Lily is too young, but she helps me study.)

Right now, we’re practicing “Accepting a Friendly Stranger.” I have no problem with friendly strangers! Last night Marnie was walking me around the apartment complex when a delivery guy showed up with a package. Marnie told him we were training and would he mind chatting for a moment?

His name was Arturo and he was really nice! He told Marnie about how he had a pit bull when he was growing up and I took that as a sign. I jumped up and tried to lick his face.

It turns out that’s not how you’re supposed to greet a stranger. Who knew? You’re supposed to sit and be friendly but not overdo it. I guess I need to work on playing hard-to-get? I’m working on it! Either way, Arturo and I are cool.
