StubbyDog’s Rescue Dog of the Week is sponsored by Zobo Pet Products, who will be giving away a free collar for every dog adopted through this program.

Tyrus is a 13-16-year-old pit bull mix. He came to Liberty Humane Society on Nov. 19, 2011, a day when owner surrenders were coming in left and right. When his former guardians were asked why they were getting rid of Tyrus they provided a slew of reasons ranging from a new baby, can’t afford him, to simply can’t handle him anymore. We were half expecting them to say they were moving and had developed allergies after all these years as well! There was also conflicting information provided on his age. It was one baffling owner surrender! The staff followed-up the next day, to try and get confirmation on which age listed was actually correct. The staff were told that Tyrus could be anywhere from 13-16 years old.

Tyrus’ surrender profile revealed that he was regularly left alone for five to six hours a day. He seemed content when alone, is house broken, described as lazy, friendly with kids, playful with strangers, accustomed to brushing, gets along with other animals, and has no history of any behavior or medical problems.

Tyrus did amazing on his behavior evaluation as well. He definitely has plenty of spunk left and he looooves tennis balls! His hips have seen better days but he gets around just fine, especially when he sees a prized tennis ball! No food guarding or any signs of aggression what-so-ever. Tyrus has now been dog and cat tested, and he did perfect on both tests. This senior fellow would fit into most households just fine. He’s very quiet and low-maintenance. There is just something about Tyrus that is very enamoring!

I dare you to meet him and not fall in love. Tyrus is an older boy, but he has so much love to give. Won’t you give him a nice home to spend his golden years?

Tyrus is available for adoption at Liberty Humane Society, which is located in Jersey City, New Jersey. You can also check them out on Facebook.

there is a special place in hell for people who give up their old dogs for no good reason other than their own convenience.

Wow! Lacy is only 12 and she looks much older than he does. I’ll never understand people who would give up a dog who has tolerated them all those years. Sigh.

What a beautiful senior! I hope he gets snatched up quickly and gets to enjoy his senior years more fully. My only wish is that for those humans that desert a dog because he/she is too old find out exactly what that’s like when they reach their senior years and are abandoned by what they thought were family.
