Rocket Dog Rescue: Little Hero Hudson

When you hear Hudson’s story, you will see why volunteers and fans of Rocket Dog Rescue call him “Little Hero.” We rescued his mama, Kansas City Kitty, from a shelter in Contra Costa County, California. She had just given birth to a litter of six puppies. Sadly, the entire litter contracted the deadly parvovirus—where mortality can reach 91 percent in untreated cases. Only one survived and he was named Hudson – after a big ol’ guy that never should have survived, but did; and completely changed many people’s lives for the better.

In addition to surviving parvovirus, Hudson also had a very advanced and serious case of demodectic mange. These mites are considered normal skin fauna when present in small numbers. They produce disease only when an abnormal immune system allows their numbers to get out of control. This occurs primarily in puppies and in adult dogs with lowered immunity. Treatment can take up to eight weeks. Hudson is currently undergoing a series of Mitaban dips and regular Ketohex baths to treat his mange. His hair is growing back into a beautiful black coat with brindle specks.

Now 6 months old, Hudson is a healthy and thriving puppy! He loves to play with his foster siblings Kona, Jennie, and Pogi and attends regular mobile adoption events for extra love and attention. He is potty trained and working on basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” He enjoys daily walks around the park and neighborhood, where he greets neighbors, children, and other dogs with a friendly wag and kiss.

He loves to cuddle in your lap and simply being by your side is a treat to him. He currently weighs 15 pounds and we anticpate he will grow to 25-30 pounds. He is a small guy with a lot of love!

Hudson is currently available for adoption through Rocket Dog Rescue. You can see his latest updates on his very own Facebook page and the organization Facebook page. Rocket Dog Rescue is a San Francisco Bay Area dog rescue organization run by a group of dedicated volunteers. We save dogs from death at over-crowded shelters and find them loving, happy homes. Now into our tenth year, RDR is stronger than ever, and has saved the lives of over 6,000 animals. In 2011, we were honored with “Best Non Profit Organization” by the San Francisco Bay Guardian.

Hudson’s mom, Kansas City Kitty, is also looking for her forever home!
