Hiding Out

November 14, 2011

Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…

I love my family – I really do. But even a dog needs some alone time sometimes. After class, after a play date, or after running around like a crazy person in the house, sometimes I want to chill by myself for a little bit. Sometimes it’s ‘cause I’m tired, or sometimes it’s ‘cause I’m just played out. But during these times, I just want to hide out.

Marnie calls this my “Greta Garbo phase.” (I don’t know who Greta Garbo is. I guess she likes to nap a lot?) I’ll either retreat to my crate and curl up for a snooze, or burrow so far under the covers of Matt’s bed that I look like a lump.

(I burrow in Matt’s bed because his blankets are nice and bunchy. Lily and Marnie’s bed are always perfectly made. Not prime napping territory.)

Sometimes, though, I’ll be adventurous and find new places to hide out. Last week, Marnie’s closet had these giant plastic bags filled with clothes so it was like sleeping in the biggest pillow you’d ever seen! They were so comfy that Matt, Lily and Marnie were afraid I had gotten out! They were pretty surprised when they looked around the apartment one last time and discovered me napping away in Marnie’s closet.

Sadly, this magic pillow fort disappeared soon after. It went to a place called “Goodwill.” I guess Goodwill needed the giant pillow fort more.

Do your dogs ever hide out? Where do they go?
