Lola

October 13, 2011

StubbyDog’s Rescue Dog of the Week is sponsored by Zobo Pet Products, who will be giving away a free collar for every dog adopted through this program.

Lola is an 8-and-a-half-month-old puppy who was born at Providence Animal Care and Control. She weighs approximately 40 pounds. Lola’s mother was a French Bulldog / Boxer mix, not sure about her dad.

Lola was adopted, then returned, covered in demodex mange (not contagious to humans or dogs), infested with fleas and extremely fearful and shut-down. She is being treated for mange and has been moved to an emergency foster care home where she is already showing signs of improvement. She is no longer shaking and has warmed up nicely to her foster mom in only a few weeks. She loves to cuddle on the sofa and is very mellow.

Lola will need a home where her trust in humans can be rebuilt with patience and love. She did well with the children she has met, as well as with adults of all ages. Lola’s mange will take several months to heal, but we at Handsome Dan’s Rescue have collected more than enough donations so that her treatment will be covered, and will not be a financial burden to her adoptive family.

Lola is housebroken and walks well on leash, though because she is fearful she does not like to stay outside for very long. Upon initial evaluation, Lola gave a defensively aggressive display to the dog we were having her meet, but now that her confidence is improving she is having a blast playing with the other female dog in her foster home. She also has met several other dogs on walks and has shown them a friendly greeting.

Lola’s adoption donation is $25. A complete background screening and home visit will be done prior to adoption. If you would like to learn more about Lola please complete an adoption application here or call Handsome Dan’s Rescue for Pit Bull Type Dogs at 401.338.2590. Lola is currently in Providence, Rhode Island.

If adopted locally, Lola will come with free lifetime training and behavior support through Outbound Hounds.

She is such a beautiful girl! What a hard life she has had in such a short time…..what did the adopters think they were getting? Apparently, they weren’t prepared for a dog 🙁 So glad she is responding to her emergency foster mom…..hoping she finds her furever home soon. Sending love and light to Lola
