A Giant Cage Filled with Snacks

July 11, 2011

Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…

Carl crouched down and scratched me between the eyes. “You’re going to have a great life, Stubby. And I better not see you again.” He smiled, but his eyes looked sad. I looked from him to my new family. I had to give up Carl? And the shelter?

“C’mon, Stubby, let’s get your seatbelt on and get in the car.”

As Matt fit a harness over my head, Carl turned and left. I was scared for a second, but I knew that my new family would take care of me.

Plus I wanted to know what this whole car thing was about! Lily and Matt lead me to a giant blue cage – at least that’s what it looked like! Marnie walked ahead of us and opened a door. She patted the seat.

“C’mon, Stubby!” she called.

I looked from Marnie to Matt to Lily and back to Marnie again. So it turns out a car is like a giant cage – a giant noisy cage! Some of the cars in the parking lot were moving! I remembered I rode in one the night that I ended up at the shelter. But I was tired and hungry then. Now….well, the giant cage seemed scary.

Matt held something that smelled GOOD under my nose, and then threw it into the car.

“You can do it, Stubby!” Matt said. He patted the seat and I jumped in and gobbled up the treat.

The giant cage might me scary – but a giant cage filled with snacks? Sign me up!
