Reprieves Are Delicious

May 2, 2011

Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…

This morning, the shelter worker said his name is Carl and he’s going to take care of me. He gave me an extra blanket so now I have two! It’s the softest thing I’ve ever slept on!

I try not to sleep, though, because Carl keeps bringing people to my cage and telling them what a great family dog I’d make. I make sure to poke my nose through the bars and wag my tail, just like Libby told me to. Except when I do this, sometimes people get scared and jump back!

This is when Carl opens my cage and scoops me up in his arms! I was scared the first time he did it – it happened so fast and I was scared that he was going to drop me!

But Carl rubs my belly and tells me I’m a good boy. He tells the people I may look scary, but I am sweet and would be a perfect companion to anyone. Laying there in Carl’s arms, I know that I can do this! But the people always pet my belly and tell me I’m cute but “all of those things they’ve read about pit bulls…”

Carl tries to explain that what they read isn’t about me, Stubby. That it’s not about most pit bulls. But the people shake their head and walk away.

At the end of the day, Carl tells me I got a reprieve and gives me a red rubber toy filled with treats.

Reprieves are delicious!
