Why Is Everyone So Sad?

April 18, 2011

Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…

I went on two walks today! They were nice and played with me and brought me treats. The shelter staff told them I was a good dog, but the man said we aren’t allowed to have pit bulls in our apartment.

I’m pretty sure that an apartment is like a house, and I tried to tell him that I could be in a house! I sat nicely, just like the girl showed me how to on one of our walks. But they shook their heads and brought me back inside.

Then the girl came back. She asked the shelter worker how much longer and he said one more day and the girl got so sad! She took me outside and I tried to be good but it just made her sadder. Finally we sat under a tree in the sunshine and she scratched my head.

She said, “I’m so sorry,” and started to cry and I licked her face and tried to make her feel better. She said, “I’ll do everything I can to save you,” and I tried to show her that she already saved me.

When she brought me back to the shelter worker, he hugged her and said they would try to help. The girl promised to be back tomorrow.

I don’t understand why everyone is so sad.
