Job #1: Get Adopted

April 11, 2011

Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…

Libby didn’t come back. She was adopted.

I still think about what she said, that dogs can’t live at the shelter forever.

I don’t know why, but I am pretty sure I should work on being adopted.

Libby gave me a few pointers, like pressing my body against the bars of my cage every time people pass it, so they can pet me. I smile at them.

I have been told that I have a big smile, but people don’t think to seem that’s a good thing. When I approach them for pets, some of them shy away, running scared past my cage.

Sometimes people stop. They stay and rub the space between my eyes and it is the best thing that I have ever felt. I know that theses people are nice and I want to go with them and I look at them and wag my tail.

They say nice things to me, but they always sigh and say “I wish I could take you home, but I can’t have a pit bull” and keep walking.

They make it sound like being a pit bull is a bad thing.

So I am trying so hard to be good.
