Guess What I Am!

April 4, 2011

Stubby lived his life on a chain until one day he broke free and ran away. A Good Samaritan found him and brought him to the shelter. Now his real story begins…

I’m learning lots of things at the shelter.

Remember when they were talking about pit bulls?

It turns out I’m a pit bull.

A pit bull named Stubby!

I think it sounds kind of neat.

Libby doesn’t think so. She’s the dog who lives in the cage next to me. She says that I need all the help I can get.

Libby is white and fluffy and small and people are always taking her out for walks and telling her how pretty she is. Libby says she won’t be here at the shelter for long. She says she’s going to be “adopted.”

I told her I didn’t know what adopted means.

She says adopted means you get to go home with a family and live happily ever after.

I think the shelter is the best place I’ve ever been. There’s food and a blanket and I’m safe. I can’t imagine it being better than here!

She says it’s even better than the shelter.

I don’t believe her. I tell her I’m going to live at the shelter forever.

She says you can’t do that. They don’t let dogs live at the shelter forever.

A family approaches her cage. A little girl points at Libby and says “Mommy, can we please take her for a walk?”

Before I can ask Libby what she means, the family takes her away.
